Crews Battle Apartment Fire in Springfield Thursday Morning

The Springfield Fire Department battled the flames of a structure fire at an apartment building in Springfield early Thursday morning.

Crews were called to the Viking Apartments, located on South Luster Avenue north of East Sunshine, at around 4 a.m. this morning.

The Red Cross was also called to the scene to assist with displaced residents.

Authorities reported that roughly a dozen apartments were affected by the flames, and over 30 people were displaced.

Several injuries were reported, from fire and smoke related injuries to one person who suffered injuries from an apparent jump from the building.

Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the fire.
