Damaging Wind Gusts And Severe Weather Potential Friday

A major storm system will bring an increasing threat for severe thunderstorms in parts of the Ozarks Friday afternoon and evening.

The National Weather Service says there’s uncertainty on how far west storms will form in southwest Missouri, but if they do form, they will move quickly through the area between 4 and 10pm Friday.

Forecasters say there is the potential for many areas to remain dry, as models have trended lower in coverage.

When and where thunderstorms can develop, all modes of severe weather will be possible, including large hail greater than two inches, damaging winds greater than 75 miles per hour, and tornadoes (some strong), primarily east of a line from Lebanon to West Plains down to Mountain Home, Arkansas.

Whether we get severe weather or not, damaging wind gusts are a good bet on Friday as a High Wind Watch is in effect for areas along and west of Highway 65.

Winds out of the south could gust up to 60 miles per hour, which could blow down trees and power lines, with widespread power outages possible.

Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Here’s the latest packet from the National Weather Service on the potential severe weather and high winds.
