The local law enforcement community is mourning the death of former Greene County Sheriff John T. Pierpont, who served as the county’s top law enforcement official from 1980-2000.
Pierpont, who was 92, grew up in a law enforcement family.
His father was Greene County Sheriff back in the 1930’s.
Pierpont began his law enforcement career as the U-S Marshall for Western Missouri.
He was elected sheriff in 1980 and served until his retirement in 2000.
Pierpont, known to many as “John T.” served as president of both the Missouri Sheriff’s Association and the National Sheriff’s Association.
The Greene County Sheriff’s Office says Pierpont will be missed, but never forgotten.
