Greene County Commission Approves Declaration of Local Emergency For COVID-19

Greene County commissioners have voted unanimously to approve a Declaration of Local Emergency in response to the growing number of COVID-19 cases in the community.

Commissioners say the declaration is a means to help expedite area responses allowed by law during a crisis.

Specifically, it opens additional channels for the director of the Springfield-Greene County Health Department and the director of the Springfield-Greene County Office of Emergency Management to obtain the necessary equipment and supplies for the health of citizens, as well as seek reimbursement from state and federal sources.

County leaders stress this is NOT a stay-at-home order or masking mandate, nor is it a first step to any related orders. They say Wednesday’s action aligns with the State of Missouri emergency order that was recently renewed by Governor Parson through the end of August.

The declaration begins July 21, 2021 and is effective until it’s rescinded.
