The Greene County Republican Central Committee voted at a special meeting on Tuesday to recommend Allen W. Icet to Governor Mike Parson for appointee to the upcoming Greene County Collector vacancy.
Current Collector Leah Betts submitted her resignation effective at the end of February after conflicts with the Assessor’s office and the Greene County Commission over computer system issues that led to delays in processing personal property tax forms.
Four party members had expressed their interest in the position to the party’s central committee.
Governor Parson will need to make an appointment to fill the rest of Betts’ unexpired term, and then stand for re-election in 2022 if they wish to remain in the position. Parson does not have to choose the candidate recommended by the local party.
“Ultimately it is the Governor’s decision,” Central Committee Chair Danette Proctor said in a statement. “The Greene County Republican Central Committee is delighted that the Governor welcomes our input and consideration.”
Icet, a former St. Louis area member of the Missouri House of Representatives, moved into Greene County a few years ago to be closer to family.
“If chosen by the Governor, I am confident he will work hard and do a good job,” Greene County Presiding Commissioner Bob Dixon told KWTO.
