Greenwood Dedicates New Multipurpose Gym and Stage

Greenwood Laboratory School at Missouri State University dedicated their new multipurpose gym and stage venue on Friday.

The Betty & Bobby Allison Event Center was built with a major gift from Bobby Allison and donations from more than 100 Greenwood alumni and friends. State funds also went into the $6.4 million project. The 23,000 square foot facility includes a gymnasium for multiple high school sports plus a performance stage area.

“This is such a big day in Greenwood’s history,” Dr. Janice Duncan, director of Greenwood, said at the dedication. “We’re so grateful to have this space that will help our students get the very most from their education and experience here.”

The gym is just under 40 percent bigger than their previous facility. The seating includes both 290 retractable seats, and 322 bleacher seats with 250 folding chair seats.

New facilities attached to the gym will include a weight room, concession stand, restrooms, and corridor to the science labs. It is also connected to a locker room expansion from 2018.
