Habitat For Humanity Collecting Christmas Toys

Habitat for Humanity of Springfield, Missouri, is gathering toys for local Habitat children for Christmas as part of a revamped holiday outreach.

The toys for the outreach should be new, unopened, unwrapped, and have a cost limit of $10. Toys are needed for all ages from newborn to teenager. Toys can be dropped off at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore at 2410 South Scenic.

Habitat is revamping their holiday events because of the COVID-19 pandemic. In normal years, Habitat hosts a Christmas potluck for their Habitat families where the children receive gifts. This year, they will be doing a drive through event where families will be given a meal and gifts for their kids.

“It’s important to us to still celebrate the holidays with our local families,” Abby Glenn, Development director of HFHS, said in a statement. “While we’ll miss our usual fried chicken dinner, we’re thrilled that Santa will still be able to visit and deliver toys.”

Habitat is also partnering with local businesses to host toy drives. On Saturday starting at 8 p.m., Habitat is partnering with Hotel Vandivort for a “Selfies with Santa” event. Families are encouraged to bring gifts for Habitat children, then take a selfie with Santa and Mrs. Claus.

“We were already having the “Selfies with Santa” event, but we knew we could do more to support Habitat for Humanity,” Jennifer Peterson, Director of Sales and Marketing at Hotel Vandivort, said in a statement. “We hope everyone who comes to take a selfie will be encouraged to donate a toy for local children.”

Any businesses who would like to help Habitat with a toy drive, contact Abby Glenn at 829-4001 extension 109.
