The Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating a shooting involving a member of the Jefferson City Police Department.
MSHP spokespeople told KWTO that around 11:45 a.m. on January 3, members of the Jefferson City Police Department were called to 3553 Missouri Boulevard over reports of a man with a large knife.
When the officers arrived, they found 59-year-old James Reising of Columbia waving a large knife in a threatening manner. When the officers told Reising to drop the weapon, he refused, and made threatening moves toward the officers. The officers then fired their weapons.
Reising was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital in Jefferson City where he was pronounced dead. No officers were hurt during the incident.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control is investigating the incident.
