Icy Roads In Springfield and Across the Ozarks

Light freezing rain has caused an icy mess on roadways Monday morning, with numerous crashes reported in the Springfield metro area.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until midnight Monday night for areas along and south of I-44, with freezing drizzle ending from west to east across the area in the morning, and a mix of sleet and snow spreading across southern Missouri throughout the afternoon and evening.

The National Weather Service says the best chances for accumulating winter precipitation will be along and south of the I-44 corridor, with precipitation coming to an end overnight Monday night.

The MoDOT Traveler Information Map is showing partly to mostly ice covered roads for highways along and just north of I-44, with roads mainly just wet in the northern Ozarks.

We’ve had nearly a dozen crashes reported in Springfield by 6:30 a.m. Monday, with several of those wrecks on Interstate 44.
