Lovestruck Thief Caught Breaking into Pawn Shop

He just wanted to get enough money to buy the love of his life a ring.

Springfield police were dispatched to Armed Sources Gun & Pawn on South Grant Avenue, December 30, 2020 around 12:30 a.m.. An alarm had indicated a break-in.

When police arrived, they found Chase Wells behind the building holding a landscaping brick. A quick search found other tools, including a crowbar.

Wells told police that he was attempting to enter the business. The reason given to officers was that he wanted to steal items to sell so that he could purchase his girlfriend a ring.

Officers then placed Wells under arrest and took him to the Greene County Jail. Prosecutors have charged Wells with first degree burglary and second degree attempted burglary.

The arrest was the second time in less than 72 hours that Wells was arrested on a burglary charge. On December 28, 2020, he reportedly crawled through the dog door of a home on Normal Street. He fled before police arrived but was found nearby and arrested on first degree burglary charges.
