What We Know: A man already facing child pornography charges in Greene County is now behind bars in Alabama on similar charges.
Police in Opelika, Alabama, arrested 42-year-old Sebastian Franco last Wednesday after receiving a tip from the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
He’s now charged there with four counts of possession of child pornography.
What It Means: Franco had previously lived in Republic and was out on bond in Greene County, where he faces two child pornography possession charges.
According to court documents, Greene County detectives originally arrested Franco last October during an undercover sex-trafficking operation.
Investigators say Franco responded to an undercover online advertisement and discussed exchanging drugs for sex.
Police say Franco showed up at a meeting location and was detained. Investigators reported finding several bags containing suspected methamphetamine and a glass pipe.
Detectives also searched portions of Franco’s phone after they say he gave consent.
Investigators say Franco admitted receiving child pornography through Telegram on multiple occasions.
Franco denied that he planned to buy sex or trade drugs for sex, but investigators say he admitted intending to share methamphetamine with the woman he planned to meet.
Franco remains jailed in Alabama on the new charges.
What’s Next: Online court records show he’s also scheduled for a motion hearing Thursday in his Greene County case.
