Missouri Reacts to SCOTUS Overturning Roe V Wade

The Supreme Court of the United States has overturned Roe V Wade, the landmark case that legalized abortion nearly 50 years ago.

The Dobbs decision was quickly met with statements released from many of Missouri’s most outspoken pro-life legislators and elected officials.

Attorney General Eric Schmitt ushered Missouri into the place of being the first state to enact it’s “trigger” law, House Bill 126, which effectively ends abortion in the State of Missouri.

Section B of HB126 states, “The enactment of section 188.017 of this act shall only become effective upon notification to the revisor of statutes by an opinion by the attorney general of Missouri…”

HB 126 also states, “Notwithstanding any other provision of law to the contrary, no abortion shall be performed or induced upon a woman, except in cases of medical emergency…”

According to a statement issued out of AG Schmitt’s office, “…abortion, except in cases of medical emergency, is now outlawed in the State of Missouri.”

Missouri Senator Josh Hawley also weighed in on Twitter, stating “This is a momentous day in America, when the efforts of generations of modern-day abolitionists comes to fruition. One of the most unjust decisions in American history has been overturned”
