Women who want to pursue a career in a field related to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics will have the opportunity to gain a scholarship to do just that at Ozarks Technical Community College.
OTC announced Wednesday the Coca-Cola Foundation Women in STEM Scholarship that will give $500 per semester to 25 students during the 2021-2022 academic year.
“We’ve seen women thrive in medical programs like nursing and dental hygiene, but women also find success in fields such as mathematics, physics, fire science and emergency medical services,” Dr. Tracy McGrady, OTC vice chancellor for academic affairs, said in a statement. “These scholarships will encourage women to pursue STEM degrees and increase the diversity of qualified employees entering the workforce.”
The American Association of University Women released a report noting that despite high school girls outperforming boys in math and science classes, only 28 percent of STEM jobs are filled by women.
