What We Know: The head of Missouri’s Republican Party is calling on one of the party’s state House nominees to drop out of the race following his arrest.

What It Means: Missouri Republican Party Chairman Peter Kinder is calling on Thomas Ross to immediately withdraw his candidacy for House District 161.

Kinder says he was deeply troubled to learn of Ross’ arrest, calling the circumstances serious and troubling.

He also points out that Ross is entitled to due process and that the facts surrounding the case still need to come to light.

But Kinder says the people of the 161st District deserve a nominee who can give his full attention to earning their trust and representing their interests in Jefferson City.

What’s Next: Kinder says, given the circumstances, Ross should step down as the Republican nominee.

The party’s statement did not provide details about the arrest.
