What We Know: Police in Willard say they’ve made an arrest after several of the city’s Flock cameras were damaged earlier this month.
A 20-year-old Greenfield man is facing five felony counts of property damage. Police have not released his name.
What It Means: Investigators say five Flock cameras were intentionally damaged and left inoperable between August 15 and August 22.
Police say officers encountered the suspect around 11:30 Saturday night near the location of an active Flock camera.
Officers say the man had items similar to those found at locations where other cameras had been disabled.
Willard Police Chief Tom McClain praised officers for their work on the case. He also said people may disagree with city policies, but destroying public property isn’t an acceptable way to make that point.
The case comes as Willard prepares to end its relationship with Flock Safety.
McClain previously announced the department will not renew its contract with the company following concerns raised by residents. That contract expires in October.
What’s Next: Police say the vandalism investigation is still underway, and additional charges could be considered.
