SPRINGFIELD – The Office of Emergency Management (OEM) today released its annual report that highlights the agency’s accomplishments from January 2022 through December 2022.
The report presents a snapshot of the agency’s role in leading the coordination of the response to incidents and events while supporting its mission to help the citizens of
Springfield and Greene County prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergencies.
“I am extremely proud of the work Emergency Management staff has done during 2022,” said Emergency Management Director, Larry Woods. “Whether an extreme weather emergency, or coordinating public safety at a community special event, the Emergency Management team has proven they are committed to helping our community before, during and
after emergencies.”
In 2022 the Office of Emergency Management advanced its HometownREADY community engagement and outreach program by introducing the HometownREADY Podcast.
This public facing program provides the public a window into the
diverse world of emergency management.
Partnering with the Springfield-Greene County Library District, the OEM also
provided preparedness training to the public via a series of community outreach forums. In 2022 the OEM monitored 127 weather related events and facilitated community disaster plan development across 10 political subdivisions, while
planning or participating in three large exercises designed to test these plans.
The OEM continues to improve our community’s ability to face current and future disasters by taking actions over the past year to make our programs more accessible and developing tools that allow our citizens to make preparedness the best line of defense against disaster.
