Springfield Police Write First Two Tickets for Violations of Masking Ordinance

Springfield police confirm to KWTO News two people have been ticketed for violating the city’s masking ordinance. A spokeswoman with the department says the first ticket was issued at the airport Sunday.

On Monday, a $100 ticket was given to a man at the Panera Bread on north Kansas Expressway who refused to wear a mask despite being asked to multiple times.

Officers dealt with the man earlier in the day at a nearby shopping center for a similar complaint.

The city’s masking ordinance was first approved in July, but police spent the summer and most of the fall trying to educate people on the law when called to investigate complaints.

The ordinance is currently in effect through April 9, 2021.
