Springfield Public Schools Closing for the Week due to COVID-19 Issues

In a letter to families of Springfield Public Schools, it has been announced that all SPS schools will be closed from Wednesday, January 19 through Friday, January 21st.

All in-person and live virtual instruction are cancelled for the remainder of the week.

Because of a sharp increase in COVID-19 cases among both teachers and students, the number of absences with both groups has led to challenges with remaining teachers and substitutes.

The decision was made after discussion with the Springfield-Greene County Health Department concluded this to be the most practical approach for the protection of students and staff.

SPS hopes to reopen schools on Monday, January 24.

Other school districts are making changes too.

The Willard School District has announced a move to virtual classes for the remainder of the week, Mountain Grove School District has cancelled classes for the rest of this week, and the Republic School District will close Wednesday, but teachers will work to prepare for AMI Learning Thursday and Friday.
