Springfield’s “Rated SGF” Film Festival Canceled

Another Springfield tradition has bowed to the COVID-19 pandemic.

On the heels of the annual St. Patrick’s Day parade and celebration canceling for the year because of the virus, the Downtown Springfield Association on Thursday announced the cancellation of the 2021 Rated SGF Film Festival because of coronavirus concerns.

“We are disappointed we won’t be able to put on this great festival in 2021, but we know this is the right decision,” Jennifer Moseley, festival director, said in a press release. “We are thankful for all the support we have received as we planned this event and look forward to hosting our third Rated SGF Film Festival March 25-26, 2022. This will be our biggest and best to date.”

The DSA and the Film and Media Association of Springfield say because the event is an indoor event it would be too difficult to maintain social distancing requirements.

The event also had guests scheduled to travel from around the country.

DSA officials say any tickets purchased for the 2021 festival will be honored at the 2022 event, but if you wish to obtain a refund, you can email Jennifer Moseley.
