The National Weather Service has extended the Winter Storm Warning for the Springfield metro area and locations roughly along and south of I-44 until 6 a.m. Friday.
Forecasters say mainly light snow will continue through Thursday and overnight Friday morning, with additional accumulations of up to two inches on top of the heavy snow that has already fallen across the area.
Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely remain slick and hazardous from the earlier snow, and any additional snow will just add to this risk.
The hazardous conditions will impact the Thursday evening commute.
The weather service says we’re still on track to get 5 to 8 inches of snow across the Ozarks from this winter storm, with locally heavier amounts.
The Winter Storm Warning has been cancelled for Vernon. St. Clair, Hickory, Barton and Cedar Counties to the north/northwest of Springfield. No additional snow accumulation is expected in these areas.
The warning remains in effect until 6 p.m. Thursday for Polk, Dallas, Laclede, Jasper and Dade Counties.
The MoDOT Traveler Information Map shows all roadways in southwest Missouri and most highways south of Interstate 70 remain snow covered.
