Health department officials say they hope a drop in the number of COVID-19 cases is the start of a downward trend.

465 new cases were reported on Monday, down from more than 1100 last Thursday.

However, Springfield hospitals are reporting a near record number of patients with 249 on Tuesday.

In the meantime, there is a very high demand for COVID-19 testing in the Ozarks, and the Department of Health and Senior Services is continuing to provide additional free testing sites.

On Saturday, January 29th, a free testing event, sponsored by DHSS, will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. on the parking lot south of Hammons Field between Trafficway and St. Louis Streets.

Free testing is available at that same location every Tuesday between 10 and 6.

Also, free testing is being held in Marshfield Wednesday, January 26th through 2 p.m. at Ellis O. Jackson Park on north Marshall.
