65,000 Attended Route 66 Festival

Springfield city leaders have released attendance numbers from last week’s Birthplace of Route 66 Festival.

The city estimates 65,000 people attended the festival which commemorates the planning of Route 66 in Springfield in 1926.

City officials say the numbers are close to what they were in 2019 and last year.

They believe this year’s festival would have set a record if it wasn’t for extreme heat and rainstorms.
