Researchers review federal and state inspection reports, along with other public records, to highlight documented cases of animal suffering. Facilities in Missouri have been cited for everything from filthy and unsafe conditions, to underweight or emaciated dogs, lack of access to clean food and water, and inadequate shelter.

Animal abuse in Missouri is a Class A Misdemeanor carrying up to a two thousand dollar fine and one year in jail. Repeat offenses are considered a Class E Felony and carry heavy fines and up to four years in jail.
