Traffic is moving again on I-44 just east of Glenstone in Springfield after being closed for awhile late Tuesday morning because of a downed wire across the road.
What We Know: Both east and westbound traffic was shut down on I-44 east of Glenstone near mile marker 80 for about a half hour starting around 11:00am.
Where Traffic Was Diverted: During the closure, westbound I-44 traffic was rerouted onto Highway 65, while eastbound traffic was rerouted to Glenstone Avenue.
What Remains Unclear: We don’t know the circumstances that led to the wire blocking the interstate.
Why It Matters: Having to divert traffic on the interstate, even for a short amount of time, causes backups for drivers and makes traffic congested on the re-routed roadways (Highway 65 and Glenstone Avenue).
