Black Walnut Season Extended

What We Know: If you’ve got black walnuts falling in your yard, don’t be too quick to rake them up and throw them away. They could put a little extra cash in your pocket.

What It Means: Hammons Products in Stockton says the annual black walnut harvest is finally picking up after weeks of warm, dry weather kept many nuts on the trees.

With cooler temperatures arriving, the company has raised its buying price to 16 dollars per 100 pounds of hulled walnuts.

Hammons says most of its roughly 170 buying locations across 12 states will continue accepting walnuts through November 30th.

And you don’t need a truckload. They’ll take anything from a bucketful to a trailer load.

Harvesters are encouraged to gather walnuts while they’re still green and deliver them within a day or two.
