Emergency crews were called to the parking garage on the east side of the Mercy campus just before 5 a.m.
What We Know: Springfield Police, firefighters, and Mercy EMS responded to a shooting at a parking garage on Rogers Avenue near Sunshine Street.
When officers arrived, they found two people on the second floor of the garage suffering from gunshot wounds.
One person died at the scene. The other was taken by ambulance to the hospital but later died from their injuries at the emergency room.
What It Means: The entrance to the garage remained blocked for about 30 minutes before investigators closed off the area with crime scene tape.
Springfield police said they are not searching for any suspects and believe there is no ongoing threat to the public. They have confirmed the incident to be a murder-suicide.
Mercy has come forward and said that one of the victims was a caregiver that worked at the hospital.
