What We Know: Two southwest Missouri congressmen are headed back to the November ballot after winning their Republican primaries Tuesday night.
The Associated Press projected U.S. Representative Eric Burlison as the winner of the Republican primary in Missouri’s 7th Congressional District. Burlison defeated challengers Grayson Hunt and John Casey to earn the GOP nomination.
What It Means: Burlison is seeking his third term in Congress after first being elected in 2022. The 7th District includes Greene, Christian, Barry, Jasper, Lawrence, McDonald, Newton, Stone and Taney counties, along with the southern half of Webster County.
Before serving in Congress, Burlison represented southwest Missouri in both the Missouri House and Senate. In Washington, he currently chairs the House Oversight Subcommittee on Economic Growth, Energy Policy and Regulatory Affairs.
What’s Next: In November, Burlison will once again face Democrat Missi Hesketh and Libertarian Kevin Craig. Both advanced after running unopposed in their party primaries.
Meanwhile, the Associated Press also projected Congressman Mark Alford as the Republican nominee in Missouri’s 4th Congressional District.
Alford defeated Heather Shelton and Scott Vincent Vera to secure the GOP nomination.
The Democrat nominee in the 4th District had not been determined as votes continued to be counted Tuesday night. Alford will also face Libertarian candidate Thomas Holbrook in the general election.
Missouri’s 4th Congressional District stretches from the Kansas City area through the Lake of the Ozarks region and into parts of southwest Missouri, including the Marshfield area.
Both Burlison and Alford will now turn their attention to the November general election.
