C-U Says Outages Down to About 12,000 From Tuesday’s Storms

UPDATE: 10:30AM Thursday: City Utilities says it’s made substantial progress in its power restoration efforts, reducing the number of outages to around 12,000, down from 50,000 at the height of Tuesday’s storm. The utility says for those who still have no electricity, they haven’t forgotten you. C-U has more then 300 personnel working in the service area, doing everything they can to get everyone back up and running.

UPDATE: 7AM Thursday: City Utilities of Springfield has provided an update Thursday morning on power restoration efforts. There are still 13,700 homes and businesses with no electricity. The vast majority of those outages are in the northwest part of the city.

Original Story: Springfield City Utilities is working to restore power to customers affected by Tuesday’s storms.

A C-U news release said that at 9 PM Wednesday there were still 14,500 customers still without power.

There are more than 300 line-crews and support personnel working to restore service to customers.

C-U says this is a large-scale emergency with significant damage to the electrical system.

They hope to have everything restored by Saturday.

C-U asked customers to be cautious of downed powerlines which may still be energized while clearing debris and also check the visually check the weather heads, where the power lines connect to the house for damage.
