Governor Mike Kehoe has announced Catherine Hanaway as the new Attorney General of Missouri.

“The role of Attorney General is incredibly significant for state government, serving as the chief legal officer of the state, and there is not a more qualified person to serve Missourians as our next Attorney General than Catherine Hanaway,” Governor Kehoe said in a press release today.

Hanaway will take over for Attorney General Andrew Bailey, who is taking the position of co-deputy director of the FBI in Washington, D.C.

She will be the first female to hold the position of Missouri Attorney General in the state’s history. This is the second position Hanaway has held that has set a historical precedent, the first being her appointment as Missouri’s first and only female Speaker of the House in 2003.

Hanaway currently serves as Partner at Husch Blackwell in St. Louis, MO, as the firm’s first Chairwoman.

“It is a humbling honor to be selected for this role, and a duty I do not take lightly,” Hanaway said. “Attorney General Bailey has done an incredible job fighting for Missourians, and I am eager to get to work on behalf of Missourians to uphold the rule of law, protect the Constitution, and ensure a strong future for our state.”

She will take over as Attorney General after Bailey’s resignation on September 8th.
