Charges Filed in Beating Outside Springfield Nightclub

A Springfield man is now facing charges of involuntary manslaughter after prosecutors allege he beat a man to death.

31-year-old Jasmin Hopkins was charged Tuesday in the death of 37-year-old Jeffrey Brent on January 30.

Prosecutors believe that Hopkins and Brent got into an altercation outside the Rumors Cabaret in Springfield during the early morning hours, around 1:30 a.m. Brent was alive when first responders arrived, but had suffered severe injuries and head trauma. He later died of his injuries.

Witnesses reported that they say the incident, and that Brent did not start the altercation.

Hopkins was booked at the Greene County jail and his bond has been set for $25,000.
