What We Know: A Civil War veteran buried in Webster County more than a century ago was honored Saturday.
What It Means: Columbus Loom Dennis, who served in the Confederate Army, was recognized during a ceremony at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, south of Marshfield.
Ron McBride, with the Sons of Confederate Veterans, says his group researched Dennis’ military service and worked to get a military headstone placed at his grave.
Dennis fought in several battles during the Civil War before returning to Missouri, where he farmed near Marshfield.
He died in 1916.
What’s Next: McBride says the group continues working to identify and recognize veterans whose military service may have been forgotten over the years.
