UPDATE: The Ozark Police Department says the victim of Saturday’s shooting has been identified as Joe Newburn, 57, Ozark.
The suspect, Matthew Dedmon, 47 from Springfield, has been arrested and charged with 1st degree murder and armed criminal action.
Dedmon is being held in the Christian County Detention Center with no bond.
The case is being investigated as a homicide.
One man is dead and one person is in custody following a shooting early Saturday afternoon on the square in Ozark.
The Ozark Police Department says officers were dispatched to the 100 block of west Church at around 12:49 p.m. for a reported shooting.
When they arrived, police officers found a man in the roadway suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
The victim was transported to a local hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
While on scene, police took a person of interest into custody.
There is no immediate danger to the public, but people are asked to avoid the area while the scene is being processed.
