What We Know: Evangel University is celebrating a big addition to its Springfield campus on Tuesday.
The university will dedicate the new Daryl and Lois Flood Residence Hall during a ceremony at 2 p.m. Aug. 25 in Barnett Recital Hall. Doors open at 1:30, and the public is invited.
Flood Hall is Evangel’s first new residence hall in 40 years.
What It Means: The 58,000-square-foot building will house 224 students. It includes 116 double-occupancy rooms and eight single rooms, with each room featuring a private bathroom and two windows for natural light.
Each of the building’s four floors has a slightly different purpose.
The first floor focuses on gathering and community, including a shared kitchen. The second floor includes television, ping-pong, foosball and pool. The third floor provides space for studying, meetings and prayer, along with a movie theater room. The fourth floor offers some of the building’s best views of the Evangel campus.
The residence hall is named for Daryl and Lois Flood, founders of Daryl Flood Relocation & Logistics.
Daryl Flood says investing in young people who are strong in their Christian faith is an opportunity he deeply values.
What’s Next: The project represents an investment of about $16.5 million, including construction, furnishings, parking and other infrastructure. Evangel says the entire project was paid for through designated gifts and donor support.
The building was designed by Buxton Kubik Dodd and constructed by Williams Construction.
Tuesday’s dedication begins at 2 p.m., marking the official opening of Evangel University’s first new residence hall in four decades.
