Flash flooding stranded vehicles and bicyclists and shut down roads in Springfield, Nixa and other cities in the Ozarks Monday morning.
The Springfield Fire Department was called to rescue two bicyclists stranded at Sequiota Park. We’ve had several reports of stalled vehicles because of flooding at National Avenue and Culpepper Circle.
Other roads flooded in Springfield Monday morning include Fremont and Battlefield, Sunset and National, Battlefield and Luster, Marlan and Barataria, and Scenic and Farm Road 164.
Springfield’s south side got hammered with rain Monday morning, with just over 2.0 inches falling, with the National Weather Service office recorded 3/10ths of an inch at the Springfield Branson National Airport.
Several traffic signals in Springfield flashed red or were out altogether because of outages caused by severe storms, with more than 8,000 City Utilities customers in the dark at one point.
Power outages were also reported in the Bolivar area.
Christian County Emergency Management reported several impassible roads Monday morning, with one lane flooding along southbound Highway 160 in Nixa. Other flooding in Nixa occurred at Mt. Vernon and West, Virginia Lane, and Wilson’s Slab between Clever and Nixa, along with flooding on Old Prospect Lane in Ozark.
Webster County Emergency Management reported several roads and low water crossings closed due to flooding.
