Floodwaters Claim Life Near Fair Grove

What We Know: One person died when their vehicle was carried off the road by rapidly rising water during flash flooding on Sunday.

What It Means: Emergency crews from the Fair Grove Fire Protection District say it happened on State Highway CC when the vehicle entered the flooded crossing before becoming trapped and being swept downstream by the powerful current.

Two people were inside the vehicle.

One person was able to escape and managed to make it safely to shore and reach a nearby residence to call 911 for help.

Water rescue teams from the Springfield Fire Department joined Fair Grove crews as they searched the fast-moving floodwaters.

What’s Next: The identity of the person who died has not yet been released.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.

The Fair Grove Fire Protection District is urging drivers to use extreme caution during periods of heavy rainfall and to never attempt to drive through flooded roadways.
