A former Missouri House speaker was sentenced to 21 months in prison after pleading guilty to wire fraud for misusing federal COVID-19 relief funds intended for his law firm.
John Diehl received approximately $380,000 in loans but used the money for personal expenses instead of business-related operating costs.
Diehl resigned in 2015 due to a scandal involving inappropriate text messages to a college intern.
