What We Know: A little New Orleans-style gospel music is coming to Springfield this weekend.

The Fossil Gospel Band will perform Sunday evening at National Avenue Assembly Church.

What It Means: The group puts a lively, brass-band twist on traditional gospel favorites, inspired by the sounds of New Orleans street musicians.

Band members say the idea originally came from former Missouri Governor and U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft.

The free-flowing gospel performance is expected to last about 45 minutes to an hour.

The music starts Sunday at 6 p.m. at National Avenue Assembly, 931 North National Avenue in Springfield.
