What We Know: Greene County Sheriff Jim Arnott is one step closer to a new role in federal law enforcement.
What It Means: The U.S. Senate voted 52 to 47 on Friday to confirm Arnott as the next U.S. Marshal for the Western District of Missouri.
Before he can officially take the job, President Donald Trump must sign the appointment, and the U.S. Department of Justice must complete the final approval process.
What’s Next: Once that’s done, Arnott will submit his resignation as Greene County sheriff. The effective date will depend on when the federal process is finished.
Arnott has served as Greene County sheriff since first being elected in 2008.
The Greene County Commission says it already has a plan in place to appoint an interim sheriff, ensuring the department continues operating without interruption during the transition. Commissioners say they’ll provide more updates as they become available.
