The National Weather Service in Springfield has put a Heat Advisory in effect for the entirety of southwest Missouri until Friday.
What We Know: In the early hours of June 29th, the NWS issued a Heat Advisory for the entire week leading up to the holiday weekend. Daily heat indices are about 100 to 105 degrees, with little relief overnight in the mid-seventies.
There is a 40-60% chance of the excessive heat continuing through the Fourth of July weekend as of Monday.
What It Means: The NWS warns to limit outdoor activities during excessive heat, drink plenty of water and avoid alcohol. When outdoors, work early or very late in the day, wear light-colored clothing and sunscreen.
Any outdoor plans for the holiday weekend should having cooling and hydration options readily available.
