A Heat Advisory is in effect for the Ozarks through 8pm Sunday
What We Know: Heat index values will climb into the 100 to 110°F range daily through at least Sunday. A Heat Advisory is in effect areawide, so be mindful of the stress this extended heat can have on you and others!
What We Don't Know: Whether the Heat Advisory will be extended past Sunday into Labor Day. Forecasters say as a ridge builds across the Plains, a diffuse cold front will sag southwestward into Missouri. Global models continue to vary in the progression of the front, but its passage may bring slightly cooler temps to the eastern Ozarks and south-central Missouri early in the week.
Why You Should Prepare: Heat exhaustion, heat stroke and dehydration are all greater risks during this prolonged heat. If you start experiencing dizziness, thirst, heavy sweating, nausea, or weakness, these are signs of heat exhaustion. Move to a cooler area, loosen your clothing, sip cool water and seek medical help if symptoms don't improve. Symptoms of heat stroke include confusion, dizziness, and becoming unconscious. If you see someone experiencing these symptoms, move them to a cooler area, remove any extra layers of their clothing, and cool with water or ice.
Prospects of Rain: Forecasters say there are minimal rain chances for the next seven days. Hot and dry conditions are worsening our drought and increasing fire danger.
