What We Know: Medical crews have treated more than 85 people for emergencies so far during the Missouri State Fair in Sedalia.

What It Means: State emergency management officials say heat-related illness has been the most common problem as high temperatures continue during the 11-day fair.

The Missouri Disaster Medical Assistance Team staffs a mobile medical unit at the fairgrounds throughout the event. The team has provided medical coverage at the State Fair since 2010.

The Missouri Department of Mental Health also has members of its Behavioral Health Strike Team working among the crowds.

Those team members help visitors dealing with stress and other concerns, while also helping people stay calm and get out of the heat when temperatures become dangerous.

What’s Next: Officials continue to encourage fairgoers to stay hydrated, take breaks from the heat and pay attention to signs of heat-related illness.
