What We Know: A Springfield landmark is celebrating a big birthday.

The historic Gillioz Theatre in downtown Springfield turns 100 years old today.

What It Means: The theatre first opened its doors on October 11th, 1926, right along the newly established Route 66.

Executive Director Geoff Steele says the Gillioz has spent the past century bringing people together through movies, music, comedy and live performances.

What’s Next: To celebrate, the theatre is throwing a free birthday party today, complete with silent films, live entertainment, clowns, cake and even some rarely seen photos from its past.

Doors open at 1, with the celebration starting at 2. Tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis at the box office.
