What We Know: A fatal accident occurred about 1:23 Tuesday afternoon in the westbound lanes of James River Freeway between Campbell and Kansas Ave.
At the time of this writing (5 PM Tuesday) many details are unanswered but it appears a driver hit the median in the westbound lane, and exited the vehicle. Both he and his vehicle were then struck by a second vehicle. The person in the first vehicle died at the scene.
Law enforcement has reported that traffic in the westbound lanes was shut down while investigators were on the scene.
