What We Know: Voters had a chance Monday to hear from leaders on both sides of the political aisle during the “Perspectives from the State Capitol” program at The Library Center.

What It Means: The nonpartisan event featured Republican State Sen. Lincoln Hough and former Democratic State Rep. Crystal Quade. The two shared their experiences serving in Jefferson City while discussing the legislative process, public policy and the importance of civic involvement.

The event was hosted by the Informed Voter Coalition, a group that encourages voters to become more informed and engaged before heading to the polls.

What’s Next: Emily Fessler of Community Partnership of the Ozarks said the goal is to bring people together and focus on issues rather than political labels.

“Nonpartisanship is really the cornerstone of everything that we do,” Fessler said. “We want people to understand what candidates stand for instead of simply voting based on the letter behind their name.”

Organizers hope events like this help residents make informed decisions and encourage thoughtful conversations about the issues affecting their communities.
