Missouri State University is mourning the sudden death of senior football player Todric McGee.
McGee died Saturday morning at a Springfield hospital from injuries he sustained at his residence Friday.
Police, who were called to an apartment in the 500 block of east Cherry for a man with a possible gunshot wound, are investigating the death as an “accidental shooting.”
McGee was 21 years old, and was in his fifth season with the M-S-U Bears football team.
He earned all-conference honors in 2023.
The incident is under investigation.
M-S-U Bears Football coach Ryan Beard said in a statement, “We ask everyone to please respect the privacy of his family and our MoState football team at this time as we begin the healing process. Join us in praying for Todric and the people who loved him.”
