What We Know: A man from Springfield faces arson and burglary charges after investigators say he broke into a Catholic elementary school and set a fire inside.
Police say officers responded to Immaculate Conception School on South Fremont around 5 a.m. Friday, after a nearby officer heard a fire alarm going off. When crews arrived, they found smoke and damage inside the building.
Investigators say surveillance video showed Isaac Cass was walking through hallways, tearing down classroom nameplates and knocking over a table.
Police also say several religious items were damaged, including a framed picture of Jesus and three statues of Mary.
What Remains Unclear: Investigators described Cass as acting erratically during questioning. They say he made confusing statements, talked about poker strategies and at times appeared to speak toward a wall instead of detectives.
Police say clothing collected during the booking process at the Greene County Jail matched what was seen in surveillance footage from the school.
