A man from Branson has been charged with statutory rape of a person less than 14 years old.

Jason Berriault was charged yesterday in Taney County Circuit Court for sexually abusing a girl when she was 11 or 12 years old at his Taneyville residence.

According to the victim’s interview, Berriault would pick her up from her mother’s house, then stop in a church parking lot and rape her.

She told interviewers that this abuse occurred a few different times in different small parking lots, and kept happening until she was 14 years old.

The victim also admitted that she didn’t understand what he’d been doing to her until she took a sex education class at her school.

If convicted, Berriault could face up to life in prison.
