What We Know: A Springfield man with multiple prior felony convictions has been sentenced to more than 10 years in federal prison after authorities found several firearms and ammunition in his possession.
Ricky Joe Braden, 38, was sentenced by Senior U.S. District Judge M. Douglas Harpool to 130 months in federal prison without the possibility of parole.
What’s Next: Federal law prohibits convicted felons from possessing firearms or ammunition. Court records show Braden had previous felony convictions, including tampering with a motor vehicle and forgery.
The case stemmed from an incident on Aug. 8, 2022, when Springfield police officers responded to a 911 call at Braden’s residence.
Officers later saw Braden leave the residence carrying his child as he moved through neighboring backyards. Police said he ignored repeated commands and was initially uncooperative before being taken into custody.
Investigators found a loaded .40-caliber Glock pistol with an extended magazine, a loaded 9mm Glock pistol, and a loaded stolen .38-special revolver inside Braden’s vehicle.
In a second truck, officers found an AR-15-style semi-automatic rifle along with multiple 30-round magazines.
Additional ammunition, firearm magazines and accessories were discovered throughout the property.
Authorities also found a vehicle believed to belong to Braden’s wife with bullet holes in both the door and windshield. Braden tested positive for gunshot residue, and officers recovered brass knuckles from his person.
It was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Springfield Police Department and the Christian County Sheriff’s Office.
