Man From Springfield Accused in Two Vehicle Fires

What We Know: A man from Springfield is facing charges after investigators say he intentionally set fire to two vehicles early Monday morning.

What It Means: Richard Vent is charged with two counts of knowingly burning or exploding.

Springfield firefighters responded around 4:30 Monday morning and found two damaged vehicles. Investigators say pieces of cloth, apparently used as wicks, were found in the gas tanks of a Dodge Caravan and Chevrolet Equinox.

What’s Next: : Court documents say Vent admitted to setting the fires during an encounter with Springfield Police. Investigators also recovered cloth and a bottle of charcoal lighter fluid near the scene.

Both vehicles suffered heat and fire damage around their gas tanks.

Vent is being held in the Greene County Jail on a $10,000 bond. He is charged but is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
