A man from Webster County will spend several decades in prison after he was convicted of statutory rape.
31-year-old Alan Gilliam was charged in 2021 for multiple counts of statutory rape for allegedly having sexual encounters with a young girl for several years, beginning when she was 12.
He was one of eight suspects who were arrested in an investigation conducted by the Webster County Sheriff’s Office.
The victim told authorities about the sexual assaults once she became an adult after receiving extensive therapy.
Gilliam was convicted in March by a jury on five counts of statutory rape. Four of the other suspects have also been convicted.
He was sentenced by a judge Monday, July 22, to seven years in prison for each charge. The first three charges will be served consecutively, with the final two to be served concurrently with the first two charges.
Gilliam will serve at least 21 years in prison for his alleged crimes.
